Fitrah Donation

Supporting a family in need during Ramadan with a Fitrah donation

About This Project

Fitrah is a merciful helping hand extended to those in need.

It is an obligatory (wajib) charity that every Muslim who lives to see the end of Ramadan must give.

With your Fitrah, you too can share the blessings of Eid with those in need.

About the Fitrah Donation: Give Your Fitrah from Austria on Time

A Fitrah donation is an obligatory (wajib) charity given by every Muslim who lives to see the end of Ramadan and owns wealth equal to the Nisab, for themselves and for those they are responsible for supporting.

At Austria Yetim Eli, Fitrah is 15 € per person.

Fitrah 2027 Austria: how much and when?

Diyanet has announced the minimum Fitrah in Europe for 2026 as 15 €.

Some organisations in Austria may announce different minimum amounts; anyone who wishes may give more.

According to the Diyanet calendar, Ramadan 2027 begins on 8 February 2027; Eid al-Fitr falls on 9–11 March 2027.

So that Fitrah reaches those in need before Eid, it is recommended to give it before the Eid prayer, preferably in the first half of Ramadan.

For current amounts, see our article How much is Fitrah?.

Calculating Fitrah for your family

Fitrah is given separately for yourself and for each of the young children you are responsible for supporting.

Number of peopleTotal Fitrah
1 person15 €
2 persons30 €
5 persons75 €
8 persons120 €

Example: For a head of family living in Graz with a wife and three young children, the Fitrah comes to 5 × 15 € = 75 €.

If the wife has her own wealth, she gives her own Fitrah; for specific cases, consult a religious scholar.

Who must give Fitrah, and who receives it?

Fitrah is obligatory for a Muslim who, apart from basic needs and debts, owns wealth equal to the Nisab. Unlike Zakat, this wealth does not need to have been held for a full year.

Fitrah is given to those eligible to receive Zakat: such as the poor, the destitute, debtors and stranded travellers.

Fitrah is not given to those one is obliged to support, such as parents, children and spouse; this is why many families in Austria entrust their Fitrah to an organisation that delivers it to regions in need.

The difference between Fitrah, Zakat and Fidyah

  • Fitrah: linked to Ramadan, per person, given once a year.
  • Zakat: 2,5% of wealth, subject to the one-year condition — Zakat donation.
  • Fidyah: the payment made for each day by someone unable to fast.
