About the Student Scholarship: An Investment in a Future for Africa
A student scholarship removes the biggest obstacle facing a young person who, despite doing well, is on the verge of dropping out of school for financial reasons.
At Austria Yetim Eli, we pass on your scholarship donations for Africa regularly to students whose need and performance have been assessed.
Monthly scholarship amounts
| Region | Monthly | 6 months | Yearly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Africa | 25 € | 150 € | 300 € |
| Türkiye | 60 € | 360 € | 720 € |
The difference in amount reflects the cost of living and education in each region.
Who receives a scholarship?
- Students who want to continue their education but lack the financial means
- Young people selected on the basis of need and academic performance
- Students at risk of dropping out because they have to support their families
A regular scholarship helps students cover travel, food and course costs, so they can focus on their studies.
Example: a one-year scholarship from Austria
A family living in Innsbruck wants to support a university student in Türkiye for one year.
They select the Yearly option in the form: 12 × 60 € = 720 €, in a single payment.
If the same family wants to support a student in Africa for 6 months: 6 × 25 € = 150 €.
You can make your choice in the form above and pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, EPS or PayPal.
Can Zakat be given as a student scholarship?
According to Diyanet, Zakat may be given to poor students in need.
For details read our article who is Zakat given to; if you are unsure about your own situation, consult an imam.
If you do not intend it as Zakat, your scholarship donation counts as Sadaqah. Because it helps spread knowledge, its good lasts a long time; see Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah.
Why a regular scholarship?
One-off help meets a single need; a regular scholarship allows the student to plan ahead.
A young person who doesn't know how they will get to the end of the month is often forced to drop out and work. Support that arrives every month makes it easier to put off that decision and complete their education.
A young person who completes their education becomes someone who contributes to their family, community and society; in this way, the impact of your donation passes from one generation to the next.
For families in Austria who know the value of education, a student scholarship is a direct way to share that value with a young person in Africa.
