A water well donation offers a lasting solution to people who walk kilometres every day to reach clean water.

Why a water well?
Dirty water is one of the main causes of diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid, and it affects children most.
In villages far from water, children — especially girls — have to spend time carrying water instead of going to school.
The World Health Organization (WHO) provides detailed information on the health impact of clean drinking water.

Which type of well should I choose?
- Hand pump: operated by a hand pump and needs no energy; an economical solution for villages. Example: hand-pump water well in Mali.
- With ablution fountain: meets drinking water and wudu needs together. Example: well with ablution fountain in Bangladesh.
- Borehole: reaches deep groundwater; for places with severe drought. Example: borehole well in Benin.
- Solar-powered: provides uninterrupted water with a solar-powered pump. Example: solar-powered well in Yemen.
Example: a shared well as a family
Four siblings living in Bregenz want to fund a hand-pump well in Mali in the name of their late mother.
The well costs 2.000 €. Per sibling that comes to 2.000 € ÷ 4 = 500 €; each can pay their share separately, or one person can add the whole amount to the basket.

- Complete the payment by card, EPS or PayPal; your receipt arrives by e-mail.
What should I consider when choosing a well type?
Your budget, the depth of water in the region and the size of the community the well will serve are the deciding factors. For a small village a hand-pump well is enough, whereas in arid, densely populated areas a borehole or solar-powered well offers a longer-term solution.
